History of Watertown
Watertown was established in 1630 and for many years was more populous than Boston – it even was the seat of the government of Massachusetts for a short while. It is the home of Watertown Square, the Arsenal Center for the Arts and Mount Auburn Cemetery. Founded in 1831, the cemetery is listed by the American Association of Botanical Gardens and Arboretum, as the second oldest public garden of any kind in the United States.
Located on the Charles River, Watertown offers many destination spots of its own, along with being close to Boston and Cambridge – for easy access to Harvard Square, Back Bay and other popular areas. You can bike along the Charles, kayak or take a gondola ride.
